How to find your TIN Number in Malaysia (for individuals)

Posted on May 27, 2025May 27, 2025 By Drawson
  • MyTax Portal: The easiest way to find your Tax Identification Number (TIN), also known as “Nombor Pengenalan Cukai” or Income Tax Number, is through the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM or LHDN) MyTax Portal: https://mytax.hasil.gov.my/
    • Log in to your account.
    • Your TIN will usually be displayed on the front page of your individual income tax return or prominently on your MyTax Dashboard after logging in.
    • There is also a “Search TIN” function where you can input your Identification Card (NRIC) number or Passport number (for individuals) to retrieve it.
  • Income Tax Return Forms: Your TIN is typically printed on the front page of your individual income tax return forms.
  • HASiL Care Line/Live Chat: You can contact the HASiL Care Line at +603-8911 1000 (or +603-8911 1100 for overseas callers) or use their Live Chat service for assistance.
  • Nearest HASiL Office: You can visit your nearest IRBM/HASiL office for help.

Can you get the TIN number from a passport for individuals?

  • While your passport itself does not contain your TIN, the National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) Number, which is a functional equivalent to the TIN for individuals, can be found on the second page of your Malaysian Passport.
  • When using the MyTax Portal’s TIN search function, you can often use your Passport Number (for non-Malaysian individuals) or your NRIC number (for Malaysian individuals) to search for your TIN.

Will the TIN number replace the IC in the Passport?

  • No, the TIN number does not replace your NRIC (Identity Card) number or your passport.
  • The NRIC number is a unique 12-digit number issued by the National Registration Department for identification purposes for Malaysian citizens and permanent residents.
  • The TIN is a unique identification number assigned by the IRBM (LHDN) specifically for tax purposes.
  • For individuals, the NRIC number often serves as a functional equivalent to the TIN for tax reporting, especially for purposes like the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
  • For e-invoicing, Malaysian individuals can use either their TIN or their IC number (MyKad/MyTentera identification number) or both. Non-Malaysians can use their TIN or Passport number.
